Recommendations for Cleaning Products
Modified on: Fri, Apr 9, 2021 at 1:42 PM
You are likely being bombarded by multiple vendors and pop-up vendors touting the “best” product for you to use to combat COVID-19 at camp. We have reviewed and evaluated many products based on the following criteria:
- Availability – Is the product currently available? If so, are you able to order the product from multiple vendors based on your delivery needs or is it only available through one distribution channel?
- EPA List-N – Does this product appear on EPA’s List-N: Approved Disinfectants for Covid-19? https://cfpub.epa.gov/giwiz/disinfectants/index.cfm
- Ease of Use – Is the product easy to use?
- Fool-Proof – Is the product automatically dispensed without the need to manually mix chemicals assuring the proper dilution ratings?
- Cost – Is the product economical?
Based on the above criteria, H&H Purchasing recommends using the following products:
Cleaner/Disinfectant – Ecolab Peroxide Multi Surface Cleaner and Disinfectant – H&H Purchasing has been recommending this product for the last few years. This is a hospital grade disinfectant that cleans, disinfects, and kills viruses in 1-step on non-food contact surfaces. This product should be used everywhere around camp excluding the dining room/kitchen. It can be used for all high touchpoints: restrooms, door handles, etc. This product can also be used to clean glass and mirrors. It appears on EPA List-N and is also rated as a 30 second kill time for COVID-19.
This product is available from many of the broadline vendors, and it is also available from Ecolab directly. Based on the H&H Purchasing pricing, one 2-gallon case can produce over 200 spray bottles (24 oz) which is around $0.30/bottle. Ecolab provides a free dispenser for this product which assures the proper dilution rating. The dispenser only requires water which can be hooked up to a spigot, sink, etc. Staff will not need to measure or “eyeball” to determine if the amounts are correct. Many H&H Members have had dispensers installed in their kitchens, as well as, maintenance or cleaning supply areas. If you do not already have Peroxide set up at your camp, please contact us so we can have the dispenser installed at your facility.
USAGE AREAS: Restrooms, High Touchpoints, Glass/Mirrors
IMPORTANT UPDATE: In the past, this product was authorized for usage on dining room tables. Based on feedback by Ecolab, they have changed this recommendation. This product should be used to clean all around camp except for the kitchen/dining room areas.
- Cleaner/Sanitizer – Ecolab Sink & Surface Cleaner Sanitizer – This product is for use in the dining room and in the kitchen on all food contact surfaces. It is on the EPA List-N and is rated as a 15 second kill time for COVID-19.
This product is available from many of the broadline vendors and it is also available from Ecolab directly. Based on the H&H Purchasing pricing, a 2.5/gallon case can produce over 300 spray bottles (24 oz) which is around $0.47/bottle. The dispenser is free from Ecolab and only requires water which can be hooked up off a spigot, sink, etc. If you do not already have Ecolab Sink & Surface Cleaner Sanitizer set up at your camp, please contact us so we can have the dispenser installed at your facility.
USAGE AREAS: Food Prep Areas, Front of House, Back of House, Third Compartment Sink Sanitization.
This change in product suggestion is based on current usage due to the pandemic as well as additional review by local and state health departments. This change simplifies the process as you will be able to designate one product for the kitchen/dining room and one product for the rest of camp.

Why not just use bleach or other similar cleaning products?
For many years, it has been a common practice to use a bleach mixture to clean around camp. While this is an acceptable cleaning process when done properly, H&H Purchasing does not recommend this method. There is no way to guarantee that the dilution ratio is correct, and the mixing of chemicals can be extremely dangerous if not done properly. There are many other products on the market including ready-to-use (RTU) products like Fantastik, Formula 409, Fabuloso, etc. We do not suggest these products as they are significantly more expensive, and you are essentially paying for scented water.
Aren’t Ecolab products expensive?
Yes, some Ecolab products are more expensive than comparable generic brands, but not in the case of the products listed above. Additionally, we feel that with the reputation of Ecolab as a world leader in chemical cleaning products, you are providing your camp community with an effective product.
Both products are available on PurchaSoft. Please contact H&H Purchasing if you would like to discuss more or have us contact your Ecolab representative to get them set up at your facility.
